Inspiration & Perspiration:
Danielle Trussoni’s Newsletter

July 4th, 2020

“Genius is 1 Percent Inspiration and 99 Percent Perspiration.”
– Thomas Edison

If you haven’t heard the fireworks yet, they are coming tonight. I’m preparing for a huge light show over the Hudson River, which I will be watching from my front porch. I live in a Victorian era house on a bluff overlooking the Hudson. There is a small park at the bluff’s edge, and hundreds of people come to watch the fireworks. It always feels like a huge block party. Stay tuned for pictures next week!

This week, I have been working on my new novel and taking walks in the afternoon. I met a friend and we walked on the Vassar campus, where I came across this charming little cottage:

The cottage was surrounded by hydrangea bushes, and so we stopped to take a photo.

This past week I was in conversation with Diana Clarke, a debut novelist whose book Thin Girls just came out. If you didn’t get a chance to see it, here is a link to the video.

If you are interested in reading Thin Girls, use the coupon code GIRLS for 15% off on purchases of the book through July 7! Here’s the book buy page.

As you may know, I’ve been hosting weekly writing check ins on Zoom. We have had lots of writers stopping by to talk about their writing week. I will be doing it again this Sunday at 5:30 pm EST. If you’d like to stop by, send me an email and I’ll get you the link!

I love having a community of writers to talk to about the actual work of writing. To that end, I’ve decided to offer writing workshops through Zoom this fall. I teach in an MFA program (the wonderful Newport MFA at Salve Regina University) but I find that many writers are looking for just one workshop, not a whole MFA degree. If you’re interested in joining me this fall, please write and let me know. There is a limit of 12 students per workshop.

I hope that you have a relaxing weekend, and that you are finding inspiration in your work. If you have some extra time, drop me a line and let me know what you are reading!

Yours,
Danielle Trussoni
