Happy first day of June from the Writing Cave.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I escaped my little hovel on the Hudson River and spent some time in San Miguel de Allende with my husband Hadrien.

We had the time of our lives and spent every day in the sun.

We stayed at the incomparable Casa de la Cuesta, where we also visited the San Miguel Mask Museum… Then, feeling fearless, we went up in a hot air balloon, something I have always wanted to try.

I’m back home now, and am thinking about all of the books I plan to read this summer. What’s on your list? If you’re looking for something scary, may I suggest looking through my latest New York Times column?

I’ve included books from authors including Chris Bohjalian, Riley Sager, Grady Hendrix, Melissa Larsen, and Cynthia Pelayo, all of them worth checking out.

Finally, I have a few upcoming events this summer—including one in person!

First on June 5th, the Newburgh Public Library is hosting an in-person event where Julie Metz and I will talk about family secrets, ancestry, the inheritance we carry with us across generations, and the different challenges in writing fiction and memoir. Attendees will receive free copies of both of our books. Register here to join us if you’ll be in town.

Then, on July 18th, Julie and I will team up again for the San Miguel Literary Sala for a conversation about family secrets. This event will be hosted on Zoom, so you will be able to attend no matter where you are.

Thank you for connecting with me online and (hopefully) in person again soon! Reach out and let me know if you’re reading anything interesting or have fun plans coming up this summer. I love hearing from you.

Yours,
Danielle
